A Day With Dad

Prelude : The Day Before the Day

Was practicing when I received a call. It was my aunt's number, which kinda suprised me as she seldom called me. To my suprise, instead of hearing her voice over the phone, it was a man's voice. Puzzled, I thought it was my uncle for a second. But suddenly, it just hit me that the voice ain't my unc's, but my dad!

Dad just reached Kl from Sg, and he hasn't been back for almost a year (he's working in Papua New Guinea). He doesn't have a handphone, so we decided to meet up at Pasar Seni station the next day.

Intermezzo : The Day

Church was longer than usual, so I rushed down the stairs as soon as I reach the station. And there, I saw him. Before anything else, I gave him a hug. He is more skinny now, the shirt which fit him last time seems a bit loose and his hair is messier too. He must have had a tough life in the camp. He knew my Foo Chow is bad (in fact, the worse in my family), yet he started talking to me in Foochow. I tried to answer back in my brocken Fc at first, but gave up not long after.

We went to the famous beef noodle shop in Petaling Street fo lunch. Well, he complained to me that the noodles weren't as good as they were last time. But then, does it really matter? I'm glad that I can enjoy having lunch with dad after so long. The noodles simply tastes good to me! After that he brought me to a Taufufa shop, which was really good.

We were walking about computers and he decided to buy me one, since I don't own one. I told him the way to lau yat via Lrts, but turns out he knew the transportation better than me and we just took a bus to there (And I've been in Kl longer than him, me thinks!) There, he suddenly asked me whether I know how to choose a laptop. *Shake heads* I DON'T KNOW! AHHHH!!! So there goes 2 guys window shopped in Lauyat because both don't really know how to pick a laptop (we decided to wait until my bro comes back after holiday to buy one).

We had steak for early dinner. Then we went to Sg. Wang, coz I wanna buy some scores, which I didn't manage to find. I told him I need a tie, and the search for the tie begins! I wanted to go to this tie shop Chris told me, but failed to find it after more than 20/30 mins of walking. I ended up calling Chris. Now, I finally have a tie. It's funny, that I never liked shopping, let alone walk in a crowded lala land. But when dad's there, I really enjoyed myself walking with him.

Finale : Departures

We went to take a bus, one which can pass by pudu and reach my place directly. Before he left, he gave me a big warm hug, and we waved goodbye. I sat there, my eyes getting more moisture ( you know what I mean). Never knew I'd miss him that much. I'm very thankful to him, to be willing to work in harsh environment to raise us, to let us choose our own path, and never gave up on us.

1. Finally, I feel like updating this blog. But then, no one's visiting anymore. =/ Gah, who cares!

Patriotism(?) and Wah-u

Remember that I had always mentioned that it would've been great if I can receive wah-u before exams, like a sudden shine on the page of the book, then exams would not have been a problem. Well, what do you know, wah-u comes in different forms, only that you did not realize!

Something like this. Well, u get the idea.

It drizzled a bit this morning. The irony is, I saw 5 accidents which happened on the same road on my way to school (you don't see this often even if it rained really heavily). So what did it have to do with wah-u?

The thing is, we're having English papers this morning. In the directed essay exam, the questions is basically like this : You are on your way to the school when you witnessed a road accident. The police requested you to write a report on the accident.

Moral of the story : ~~I should go buy toto or 4D if something similar happened again~~ We can receive wah-u!

Anyway, back to the essay, one of the points was 'vehicles involved'. Turns out everyone in class wrote either Proton Saga or Proton Wira. Basically both protons became junk metal after the accident. A friend of mine actually wrote a Toyota crashed into a Saga, and the Toyota was unharmed. The Saga? Scrap metal. This simply shows that we're very patriotic, no?

After recess, all the form 4 & 5 students were asked to go to the school hall for some talk regarding SPM. During the one and a half hours of ~~bullshit~~ talk, I was reading history, which made me missed an interesting show.

Apparently, a Form 4 couple sitting next to me were having lots of fun touching each other. Yes, touching each other.

The guy was touching herOk, I'm exaggerating. At least you get the idea. It's actually herOn 2nd thought, it ain't that flat. This fits perfectly:
Anyway, when the talk is finished and all of us were leaving, the girl touched the guy'sI got to say, both of 'em were really brave enough to do all these in front of school prefects. Well, no actions were taken against them, since the prefects were enjoying the show themselves.

Life is Short

Got this email from a Tasha. Whether it's true or not I don't know, but it's something worth looking.

The girl in the picture is Katie Kirkpatrick, she is 21. Next to her, her fiancé, Nick, 23. The picture was taken shortly before their wedding ceremony, held on January 11, 2005 in the US .. Katie has terminal cancer and spend hours a day receiving medication. In the picture, Nick is waiting for her on one of the many sessions of quimo to end.

In spite of all the pain, organ failures, and morphine shots, Katie is going along with her wedding and took care of every detail. The dress had to be adjusted a few times due to her constant weight loss.

An unusual accessory at the party was the oxygen tube that Katie used throughout the ceremony and reception as well. The other couple in the picture is Nick's parents, excited to see their son marrying his high school sweetheart.

Katie, in her wheelchair with the oxygen tube, listening to a song from her husband and friends.

At the reception, Katie had to take a few rests. The pain does not allow her to stand up for long periods.

Katie died five days after her wedding day. Watching a woman so ill and weak getting married and with a smile on her face makes us think..... Happiness is reachable, no matter how long it last. We should stop making our lives too complicated.

Today, I was supposed to go KK to play Vivaldi's 4 seasons. I should be happy to be able to skip school exams, play Vivaldi and a bit of chamber music with some friends.

HOWEVER, due to some unforeseen circumstances, it was postponed. Basically, it means I need to finish the whole friggin' exams! I didn't even study much!

For more than half of the time during exams, I was sleeping. And I'm the first to sleep. What could I do? Stare at the paper and blame myself for not studying for more than an hour?

Goodness! 2 more days to go. Physics, biology, add-maths and maths. Digging a grave would've sounded easier...
And then, MPYO. Hope everything's going to go well...

Screw The Bloody War!

After 2 weeks of pain and depression, it's finally over.

Those who were fully armed, what's gonna come up next doesn't scare them at all. Well, maybe a bit?

The elites shot without hesitation. They won't even blink their eye. Cold-blooded eh?

SOME....just doesn't care. Whatever happens doesn't matter to them. Well, that's before the results come out though.

Most of us who had burnt midnight oil just had to take a break between the war. But some....just play dead for the whole time.

Some unlucky guys got arrested, and they were executed right on the spot.

This probably happens when you saw the enemy and you realized you didn't prepare enough or you're just gonna die instantly. (That's Add-Maths for me)

Whatever happens, we should just take the risk and shoot. Who knows you might be lucky?

....or maybe just aim yourself. There is always a second option ;)

For now, the war doesn't matter anymore(FOR NOW ONLY). It's over!

On The Way to War Zone

They say having exams is like going to a war zone. How true! It's not really a kill or be killed place, but if you don't do well, you're as good as being dead.

Basically, there are 4 types of students:

The elites. Perfectly trained to shoot their target. Sniper is their choice of weapon.

They aim.

They shoot.

They seldom miss their target.

Spies. Almost everything can be their weapon, ranging from their own body to a piece of paper.

Luck is what they need most and not getting caught is what they're good at.

*Look left, look right and look left again.

Ah! I know the answers!

Normal soldiers.

Simple.

Plain.

Chances of shooting at the right target are 50/50.

Unlucky and they'll be shot down. Lucky and they'll have a killing spree.

Those who don't even care. Being dead or alive doesn't matter.

Sleeping is what they do most of the time during exams.

If you ask which type I am, I'm this guy below.

Nawh. I haven't even cleared the dust on my books. Anyway, I'll just take a machine gun, cover my eyes and shoot. Or maybe use a grenade. Or a keris.

Difference Between Prison and Work

KK JPO Trip: Finale 21-22/9/08

Had brunch(breakfast+lunch) at Dr. Heng's house. His house's design was interesting and the food was good. A lot of people had 2 rounds(1st round: breakfast, 2nd round: lunch!)

Guess what, I drank beer again! XD

This is not plain water, it's liqueur. And it tasted nice!

After eating, we had a small session of piano jamming. Jeffrey played On My Own(Les Mis), All I Want of You(Phantom of the Opera) and some others. We sang together and it's quite fun!

After that, we went Yayasan Sabah for rehearsals. After finishing rehearsals, I was stuck there because I need to change some bowing. As a result, I missed the bus back to hotel. Thank goodness Kiwi was kind enough to give me a ride back.

So this is how they move a baby grand! Looks more like a handicapped piano to me though.

While on the way to Tang Dynasty Hotel, I noticed the road he used was totally different than the usual one we use. Turns out there were 2 Tang Dynasty Hotels in Kk =.=! Poor Kiwi, he had to drive for another few km again. Didn't sleep much in the end. Had to have some coffee(Thanks Alphie!).

Actually planned to go starbucks, but it's expensive. Maybe I should go here?

We went for sound check at Yayasan Sabah again. Had sandwiches for dinner.... :S The performance was okay overall, apart from some hairy moments.

After the concert, we went for supper at some hawker stall. The seafood was great! We joked around and chatted. Went back quite late. Here's some of our conversations in the car:

Tony: Look at that shop.

Eben: What's wrong?
Tony: It's a light-fixing shop but only half of the light on the shop's sign is on. Bad advertisement.
Toti: Maybe they only pay half of the electric bill.

Andrew: I wonder why Bach transcribed the piano concerto for 2 pianos into a different key..
Toti: Maybe he forgot the original key when he's transcribing.

Well, that's all for the 4 day trip. Slept at 2 and woke up at 5.....because the flight is at 7 ... XS Got to say bye to my friends in Kk and Philippines. Sad. Hope to see you guys again.

Oh yea, I was stopped in the airport when my violin case was scanned because the police had never seen a tuning fork before. Kanasai! Maybe they think I'm gonna use it to force the pilot to crash into KLCC....

KK JPO Trip: 3rd Day 20/9/08

Basically I didn't do anything the whole morning, except practising a bit of Harry Potter's 'magical' moment. As usual from John Williams, those hair-raising(hairy) parts for the violins...

Although cellists have a beautiful instrument between their legs and can make it sing beautifully, sometimes it's hard to resist from molesting other ppl's instrument. XD

Oh yeah! By the way, thanks to Andrew who fixed my bridge and retarded pegs. Apparently the pegs are a bit too slippery too fit in the peg holes.

After lunch, we had string orchestra rehearsal at Yap Ling's residence. Well, houses were never meant for orchestra rehearsals, it feels like being cramped in a tuna can. I felt hot. Besides, it's pretty hard to prevent from hitting the others with your bow.

After finishing the rehearsals, we went to Kian Kok for dinner and rehearsals again. We didn't do much the whole day but it's somehow the most tiring day.

KK JPO Trip: 2nd Day 19/9/08

We went to Jesselton Point and took a boat to Pulau Mamutik. Well, Alphie, Keng Vui and I were the only Malaysians, the rest are all the Filipinos. I was quite amazed by the island's beauty (not to mention it's my 1st time seeing girls in bikinis~)

There's a lot of fun water activities but the price is too expensive for me. So I chose the cheapest 1, snorkeling(RM10 saja)! It's my 1st time and it's pretty fun! I went to feed the fish in the sea and gosh, looking at all the beautiful fishes swarming over my hand for bread crumbs were simply fascinating!!! Saw Nemo too~ Hahaha XD

One of the boatman was kind enough to bring me further into the sea to see the coral reefs(I can't swim). The corals have similar colours but the shape & sizes are very interesting! After that, we went to have lunch and we went back early.

Corals are nice to see but if touched, lu punya pasal!

The island trip was fun! Thanks to the organisers!

I had a short nap, light refreshments and then all the M'sian guest players went to help a wedding performance(We're all sight-reading XD). The acoustics were terrible because of the thick carpets. We also watched a video about the couples, where the bridegroom's friend were played by the bride's friend(Chinese customs I guess) Not gonna mention the games because they're really, really humiliating. After that, we went back to the hotel. Andrew, Alphie and I didn't sleep until after a game of Uno. XD

KK JPO Trip: 1st Day 18/9/08

So, I skipped school during recess time to catch my flight(excuse lar). Well, I reached KK 15 minutes earlier than expected, hooray for Airasia! At the airport, I waited See Ching & David for half an hour, only to be informed we had to wait for Beng Yew for another half an hour...

After that, we went to Tang Dynasty Hotel. There, I met Andrew & Alphie(my roommates). After a short nap, we went to Kian Kok. Had bread and coke for dinner =.="

Not long after that, the Filipinos arrived. Met Sara(ex-AYO member) and Geina(concertmistress of Manila Symphony Orchestra). Both are really good violinist! The guest conductor, Prof. Toti(MSO) is quite funny. The 1st thing he said to us was, "Sorry if I don't conduct well because I'm not used to conducting without my shoes on."

After rehearsal, we went to have supper. The food was great! From L-R: Yap Ling, Tony, Dr. Heng, me, Beng Yew, Alphie, Gang Chong, Andrew, Bang Hean, Toti and his wife Heidi.

I drank beer too. What do you expect when parents weren't around~

A conductor became very ill one evening just one hour before a concert and was unable to conduct. The orchestra suddenly had to find a substitute and the only person who was willing step in and conduct was the last chair violist.

The violist conducted the concert and it was a great success. The conductor remained ill the following day and the violist conducted another concert that evening as well, getting a standing ovation. Wastage of a Ticket

So the school was generous enough to give the top 10 students of each class (academically) free movie tickets + discount coupon for pepsi and popcorn (which saves 50 cents ONLY). School's usually very kiam siap one. Me and my friends decided to watch Babylon AD, since it looks the coolest.

For 1 and a half hours, we anticipated for some exciting moments, but it just ended like that. Turns out, it's a totally boring movie, not even worth watching. It's basically talking crap, showing Vin Diesel's hairy man boobs, the cruelty of this world and a future world that looks not much different than the present.

If we'd watch Rogue, it'll be 'AHHHHHHHHH!'. If it's Over Her Dead Body, it'll be 'HAHAHAHAHAHa'. But Babylon AD is simply 'HARRR!? FINISH D?'. We wasted a free movie ticket just like that! Everyone regretted.... A few of us just pointed the universal sign langauge in front of the poster.

Lesson learnt: if you wanna watch a movie, check out the trailer 1st, then ask your friends who've watched d and never believe the posters!
